What is SafariDesk Open Source?
+SafariDesk Open Source is a self-hosted ticketing and support system built to help teams manage customer requests, internal issues, and workflows. The open-source version gives you full access to the codebase, allowing you to deploy, customize, and extend SafariDesk on your own infrastructure.
Is SafariDesk Open Source really free?
+Yes. SafariDesk Open Source is free to use under its open-source license. You can download the software, run it on your own servers, and use it without paying licensing fees. You are responsible for hosting, maintenance, and infrastructure costs.
Where can I download the source code?
+
The full SafariDesk Open Source codebase is available on GitHub:
https://github.com/safaridesk/safaridesk
The repository includes installation instructions, documentation,
and contribution guidelines.
Can I modify SafariDesk for my organization?
+Absolutely. SafariDesk is designed to be extensible. You can customize features, integrate with internal systems, and adapt the platform to your workflow, as long as your usage complies with the open-source license.
Who owns the data in a self-hosted deployment?
+You do. When you self-host SafariDesk Open Source, all data remains on your infrastructure. SafariDesk LLC does not access, collect, or process your data in self-hosted deployments.
How can I contribute to SafariDesk?
+Contributions are welcome! You can report issues, submit pull requests, improve documentation, or suggest features directly on GitHub. Please review the contribution guidelines in the repository before submitting changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SafariDesk pricing and plans
What happens after my first 5 free agents?
+Your first 5 agents are completely free on the Free Plan. When you add your 6th agent, you'll need to upgrade to the Standard Plan at $9/agent/month (billed annually) or $15/agent/month (billed monthly). Once you upgrade, you'll be charged for all 6 agents. For example, with 6 agents on the Standard Plan, you'll pay $54/month (billed annually) or $90/month (billed monthly). On the free tier, you'll only pay for cloud storage if needed.
Can I switch between plans at any time?
+Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. When upgrading from Free to Standard, you'll get immediate access to all advanced features like automated workflows, RBAC, and CSAT surveys. If downgrading, changes take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, and you'll retain access to premium features until then. Switching between monthly and annual billing is also possible with prorated adjustments.
What's the difference between cloud-hosted and on-premises licensing?
+Cloud-hosted plans (Free and Standard) are hosted on our secure servers—you simply log in and start using SafariDesk with no setup required. We handle all maintenance, updates, and infrastructure. The On-Premises Perpetual License allows you to download and install SafariDesk on your own servers, giving you complete control over data, security, and infrastructure. This is ideal for organizations with strict compliance requirements (HIPAA, GDPR) or those who need air-gapped environments.
Do I need to pay the $599 support license every year for on-premises?
+No, the support license is optional after your first year. Your perpetual license means you own the software forever and can continue using it indefinitely, even if you don't renew support. However, renewing the $599 annual support license gives you access to new features, security updates, bug fixes, and priority support. Many customers choose to renew to stay current, but it's completely your choice.
Are there any setup fees or hidden costs?
+No setup fees, ever. What you see is what you pay. The Free Plan only charges for optional cloud storage if you need it. The Standard Plan is a flat $9/agent/year (or $15/month) with no hidden fees—email and phone support, custom domains, and all features are included. For On-Premises, you pay the one-time $1,499 license fee plus $599 for the first year of support. That's it. No surprise charges, no per-ticket fees, no additional costs for features.
What payment methods do you accept?
+We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), PayPal, and ACH bank transfers for US customers. For annual plans and on-premises licenses over $5,000, we also accept wire transfers and can provide net-30 payment terms for qualified businesses. Enterprise customers can request custom invoicing. All payments are processed securely through industry-standard encrypted payment gateways.
